Right now the price of petrol is really high. What can I do, besides sell my car? I do ask myself that question and so far the answer is ‘I need a car’. It’s never easy when the petrol price is so high. However the first thing I do to help is to buy petrol on the right day of the week. It might be Wednesday or a Monday; I’ve got to keep my eyes open. I never buy petrol before a long weekend or a holiday break such as Easter. Another way I save on petrol is to combine several things in the one car trip which I admit takes a little more planning. I don’t get the car out to go to one place and do one thing only; I do several things together that are in the same general direction.
Whenever I can I leave my car behind and take public transport or ride my bike. I even cycle to the train station and lock my bike inside a bike cage. I don’t mind cycling so this is not so hard for me and I like the exercise benefit. Rather than having that nagging voice inside my head tell me I need to exercise, I prefer to get exercise by doing the things I need to do and going to the places I need to go by bike. I cycle to places not that far away like my local supermarket, less than 2km away and yesterday I cycled to the cinema. I like being able to park my bike practically at the door of where I’m going and not paying parking fees is so wonderful.
