Today I filed the paperwork for my annual car insurance renewal paid online. My heart sinks when I see the insurance invoice arrive in the letterbox. Often it takes a day or so for me to even open the envelope and adjust to the payment inevitability as these bills can be large. When I feel strong enough to face it, what I do before I pay is compare the price of my premium with a couple of other insurance companies. Surprisingly getting comparison quotes is a fairly simple process so I always wonder why I put it off till almost last minute. On other insurance companies websites, I click on the “get a quote” and fill in the details. This year the difference between other quotes and my premium was only a few dollars so I stayed with my original insurance company. If I had found a superior deal I would call my insurance company and ask for a better rate. This works! They will come to the party as it is in their interests to keep customers. Insurance is a competitive business, one where you can potentially save money, sometimes quite a bit of money. I do the same thing for my other insurances as well, like house and contents. Give it a go. There are often better deals out there.
