I’ve walked around my neighbourhood more frequently this week as my Council’s verge collection is on. Some amazing things are put out on the verge. Last year, only a few streets away, on the verge I found my sofa. I couldn’t believe it. What a perfect find, I didn’t have a sofa. When I spotted the sofa I had to act quickly, anything good doesn’t stay long on the verge. Just after I saw the sofa and was checking it out another woman turned up. She told me she’d have the sofa if I didn’t take it. With competition right there I sat on the sofa to stake my claim until a friend arrived with transport. My sofa find saved me from having to buy one, either new or secondhand. It’s not my first choice of sofa but it does beautifully for now until something better turns up or I find the money to buy one. Same thing happened when I needed foam to make cushions for a cane chair I renovated. It was almost unbelievable, when I needed the foam, a foam mattress, nicely rolled up, appeared on the verge. In a strange coincidence a couple of weeks ago a friend asked me how I made the cushions for my cane chair. I told her she needed foam but not to buy any as our verge collection was coming up. This week out on the verge I found not one but five foam mattresses for her.
