If I stand on the footpath outside my house I see the Indian Ocean. Offshore within sight is Carnac Island. Inhabited only by snakes, birdlife and sea lions. I’ve always wanted to visit this basically untouched island. To get to Carnac Island you either have your own boat or hire one. Though both options were out for me, I still kept my desire to go to Carnac Island. Then the day came. Last weekend the powerboat club had an open day and offered free trips to Carnac Island! I was there! And I was on the first boat trip! The wind usually increases by mid-morning so I made sure I got to the powerboat club in time for the first boat departure. The conditions were perfect, a warm, sunny day, not too windy. Crystal clear shallower waters near the island looked so inviting, it was a shame we didn’t have time for a swim. On the beach we saw Australian sea lions. Only the males come to Carnac Island in order to rest up. The boat circled the island slowly giving us a good view all round. Then the boat sped up for the return trip back to the powerboat club. I was so happy to have finally gone to Carnac Island. And better still it was free.
