A skill to teach

A winner!

I need some money coming in; don’t we all! One day it struck me to see if I could teach a skill I had. OK, what skill? What can I do that many others can’t already do? Like everyone else I’m good at certain things, the things that everyone else seems good at as well. Good but not exceptional. Hang on! I won a prize for a short video I made. I learnt the hard way, teaching myself how to write and shoot a film then edit and produce it. To win a competition prize for my efforts was certainly something and allows me to call myself an ‘award winning filmmaker’; wow. My award winning film called Janet’s New Skills is on Vimeo. Maybe I could help others make a little video. I decided to approach my local community learning centre and offer to present a video course. They liked the idea and “Make a short film easily” joined their program. Although presenting the course kept me on my toes I could show all the shortcuts I learnt. I knew a lot of tips and tricks. This meant the participants avoided much of the pain, frustration and time wasting I went through. The Community Centre pay is not great but on the bright side it did pay my water bill. Besides, presenting the course got me out of the house. I meet others who wanted to learn and who appreciated the skills I offered. Got me thinking. Is there any other skill I could teach?
